One senior officer who rushed to the aid of a fellow officer who was ambushed by a knifeman received the Monarch's Honor for Valor.

Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown after he placed a knife to the neck of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the officers and their partner, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist following a vehicle incident in the area in July 2023.

Brown knifed and cut the two Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a stun gun.

"Officer attacked," the officer stated over his radio.

Officer-mounted and vehicle camera footage made public by the police department depicted Brown, that was clothed in black with a hood covering head, run up to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a weapon outstretched.

He ran into the officer who lost balance and dropped to the street, before Sergeant Ansell intervened and attempted to subdue him to the pavement although being multiple times hit with the blade.

Police Constable Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and awaited a clear shot, bringing the fight to an finish.

Sgt Ansell stated audibly: "Please provide help on my throat now, I'm bleeding in the neck."

Sgt Ansell received multiple open wounds to his throat and further wounds to his arms and torso, while Sergeant Foster experienced cut injuries.

Authorities reported Sergeant Foster employed his hands to stem his fellow officer's bleeding before medical personnel reached the scene.

This most recent honor comes subsequent to the law enforcement team won internal Valor Recognitions in late 2023 and the police federation award from the regional officer association in spring 2024.

They further earned a Area Valor Recognition in summer 2024.

"The actions of all three officers eventually saved one another and ensured no members of the public endured any harm."

Brown received a sentence to an indefinite hospital order in April 2024, per officials.
